A PAIR OF LOVELIES
Perfectly private from one another and just as cute as their names suggest, Foxy Loxy and Squirrel Nutkin at Roe Wood offer the epitome of getting away from it all. Nestled into a meadow, within 30 acres of woodland, boasting breath-taking far-reaching views over countryside and farmland to the glistening sea in the distance, you could catch a glimpse of all kinds of magical wildlife here. Their bubbling hot tubs are the place to enjoy the view from by day, glass of fizz in-hand, and, by night, the twinkling stars above. Inside, they are both stylish and comfortable, with all you could need on-hand. All that and they are also within striking distance of both woodland walks and coastal adventures in this special area of Cornwall, and the local pub is within walking distance too – what more could you want?
This superstar cabin not only has all the mod-cons you’ll ever need for a rurally restorative getaway but is also in a totally idyllic location, surrounded by acres of wildflower meadows, woodland and a stream, with beautiful views over a lake. Painted a pretty pale blue inside with its own sheltered patio – the perfect place for dining al fresco with a glass of your favourite tipple – there’s a comfy king-size bed, strewn with gorgeous linens, a squishy sofa in front of the warming wood-burner, galley kitchen and pretty shower-room. Set between Totnes and Dartmouth and close to some of the South Hams’ great beaches, Ashley’s Shack is truly charming and just the spot for a romantic retreat.
TREE TOP HIDEAWAY
Tucked away in the tree tops with a stream trickling through below, Tree Tops Cabin has a real rural feel, yet is just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, thatched cottages and local pub in the charming Cornish fishing village of Cadgwith (arguably the most picturesque on the Lizard peninsula). This true hideaway has everything you could need for a comfortable break away from the everyday, with large windows for enjoying the view from inside – whether from the comfy king-size bed or delightful dining area, fully-equipped kitchen and stylish en suite shower-room. In turn, the raised deck is perfect for dining or just relaxing al fresco, and there’s plenty to see and do nearby too, from coastal paths and beaches to idyllic villages.
VIEWS FOR DAYS
Totally terrific Tarka Views is truly tremendous! Reached via a magical lane in deep north Devon countryside yet within easy reach of Instow’s fabulous sandy beach and the market town of Bideford, a holiday here provides the perfect balance of being away from it all but not isolated. Simply delightful inside – light and bright with every comfort and mod-con that you could need – from the bed tucked into the Scandinavian style alcove to the kitchen and en suite shower-room. But the real showstopper here is the jaw-dropping panoramic view, over rolling countryside to the River Torridge and as far as Lundy Island, which can be enjoyed from inside, outside and the bubbling hot tub. There are 160 acres of farmland to explore too, including a circular woodland walk and an opportunity for wild swimming – just wow!
YOUR VERY OWN EDEN
Surrounded by nothing but nature and beautiful views, Lady’s Well Shepherd’s Hut sits in a gloriously serene and secluded spot – its very own Eden! There’s a fully enclosed garden with a deep pond that’s fed by a natural stream (where the name of this delightful retreat originates from) and a sweet jetty from which to dingle-dangle your feet and fishing rod. Not to mention a bubbling hot tub and, from the viewing platform at the top of the fields, views across the sea as far as South Wales. Set in a gentle valley at the edge of the Mendip Hills AONB, the farm used to be part of the ancient Hutton Estate and is a site of Special Scientific Interest and is a haven for wildlife – from deer, foxes and badgers to kingfishers and buzzards.
Everything about this bespoke shepherd’s hut has been meticulously planned, from the long, low corner windows – which give a breath-taking view from the comfort of the extra-long bed – to the hand-crafted wood-burner, vintage light fittings and reclaimed wood cladding. Lovely Largin Shepherd’s View is set within a 35-acre small holding, close to the picturesque fishing harbours at Polperro and Looe and sandy beaches on the south Cornish coast, tucked into a sheltered tree-lined nook above a wooded valley with views for miles, encompassing the wild walks and ancient tors of Bodmin Moor in the far distance.
Beautiful inside and out, The Shepherd’s Hut at Georgia Bridge sits in its very own tropical oasis of tranquillity, surrounded by plants, with fields beyond and a babbling brook to lull you to sleep. Nestled off the beaten track – reached through winding lanes full of wildflowers in the summer – yet just a short drive to the ever-popular and absolutely stunning seaside town of St Ives, a real must-visit when holidaying in the far west of Cornwall. Decorated with a modern country look, it’s kitted out to perfection, from the deep, comfy king-size bed the flat-screen TV and en suite shower-room and under-floor heating (there’s an atmospheric wood-burner too!) and is just the place to escape to with your loved one, switch off from the world and reconnect with each other.
A true rural retreat, King’s Cabin is the place to escape the hustle and bustle of modern life (and to stay in that just-married bubble!) for a few days or more. Rustic yet stylish and comfortable, and so far away from basic – the lovely owners have though if everything and have a great attention to detail. If you don’t feel like cooking (and why should you!), the local pub is just a 10-minute walk away (booking essential) but the kitchen is very well-equipped, should you need it. The king-size bed enjoy views out over the deck and Devonshire countryside beyond, as does the bubbling hot tub – the perfect place to enjoy a G&T and toast to your lives together.
YOU AND YOUR (FUR) BABY
A staycation honeymoon or mini-moon means that you can take along the four-legged member of your family too, and Lamb’s Tale Shepherd’s Hut is the ultimate place for such a break. There’s everything you could need, from a well-equipped kitchen to the hot shower to the comfy king-size bed, and the garden is a great size and escape-proof for the dog. Of course, the hot tub is a great place to end the day, with a glass of wine in-hand, watching the stars come out above. And the location couldn’t be better – less than a five-minute walk and you’re in the Quantock Hills – fantastic walks and jaw-dropping views – sit for a while and feel like you are the only people in the world – bliss.
