Forest bathing, a form of nature therapy honed in Japan, explains why you feel so much better after a woodland walk. Being among trees is a long proven way to clear your mind, relax your body and improve your health, so where better to be on holiday than a cabin in the treetops?
Wood Cabins help you reconnect with the natural world but with Classic Glamping you don’t have to give up the home comforts at the same time; drink in the atmosphere from the hot tub, meditate to birdsong from a comfy bed and have breakfast al fresco among the treetops.
Forest Bathing, or Shinrin-yoku, isn’t even something you have to concentrate on to feel the benefits – this kind of eco-therapy is all-encompassing, just stopping for a moment to appreciate your surroundings comes naturally and a post-brunch wander along a sun-dappled path from your front door will lift the weight of the world. Just try it. An indelible, innocuous, beautiful de-stress just from being in a place.
Here are your childhood treehouse dreams, all grown up.
North Devon cabins in the trees
Our largest county of vast landscapes, moorland, woodland and two separate coastlines, Devon is the perfect place to squirrel yourselves away for some much needed down time. Deep in the heart of 51 acre farmland setting, tucked in 15 acres of woodland on the side of a valley with river frontage, two beautifully bespoke wood cabins sit proudly and privately among the tree tops.
To set the shinrin-yoku mood, follow the woodland path from the parking area along to this magical setting and either veer off first to George Cabin or carry on further to separate King’s Cabin. They face away from each other and there are no other near neighbours, so drop your weekend bag and get in that hot tub on the deck and stare through the trees till the stars sparkle above.
West Cornwall treehouse holidays
Get far away from your everyday by travelling west and then west a bit more – Cadgwith is a little cove on the Lizard peninsula that is well worth the drive. Forest bathing isn’t the first thing you think of for holidays in a Cornish fishing village but we’ve found the best of both worlds.
Tree Tops Cabin is minutes from the beach yet tucked above a little woodland on the side of the valley where you’re level with the tree canopy – one even grows through the deck. With a little stream burbling down below, birdsong is the ultimate soundtrack for morning sun salutes. All the windows look out on this world of nature so you can appreciate the greenery without even getting out of bed.
South coast Cornwall log cabin holidays
Retreat to the south coast, but not just for the beaches. Head inland to Roseland Valley and its meadow, woodlands and lake to drink in the sights and sound of nature. This luxury log cabin is in complete harmony with its surroundings yet has all the home comforts and mod cons to make sure you’re not roughing it while you reconnect with Mother Nature. The cabin deck juts out towards the lake from the canopy of trees that surround it but if you want to leave the family fun behind, sneak down to the secluded safari tent to play Tarzan and Jane, hidden under a magnificent oak tree.
