Lodge in Cornwall: How do we even begin to describe the most unique, unusual, tranquil and simply stunning location - just like that perhaps?! Tresahor Lodge is pretty special to say the very least, nestled into a magnificent old quarry with all you could need and more.

The epitome of a hideaway, this terrifically charming lodge is perfect for couples and families alike and, as for the setting, wow, to say that it's unique is an understatement - nestled into the spectacular site of a former quarry (last used in 1906 and rumoured to not only have produced some of the best granite in the area but also provided supplies for the second build of the London Bridge), yet within easy reach of all that this gorgeous part of Cornwall has to offer.

The adventure begins as soon as you turn into the enchanting unmade driveaway, winding your way up past granite walls and old oaks to this special spot, which it's safe to that that the lovely owner - who has lived on-site for 30 years and is on-hand should you have any queries or need some local recommendations, but will otherwise respect your privacy and leave you to enjoy your stay - really has thought of everything to transform it into the holiday haven that it is today.

Let's start with the jewel in the crown, the lake - 20 foot deep with pedalos, a 'beach' with deck chairs (perfect for a snooze in the sun!) and even the chance to try your hand at fishing, it will provide hours of endless fun (children must be supervised at all times, swimming is strictly not permitted and life jackets must be donned when using the pedalos please - safety first!). Continuing outside, the brilliant barbeque hut sits proudly beside the lake and is absolutely fantastic for cooking up a yummy supper (which can be enjoyed inside or outside at the table ingeniously made from an old mill stone) or toasting marshmallows - yum!

The lodge itself is delightful - steps lead up into the open plan living-room (complete with snuggly sofa for cosying up in front of the TV of an evening, well-equipped kitchen and dining-area), which leads out to the deck in one direction (the perfect place to enjoy a morning coffee or sundowner overlooking the beautiful surroundings) and through to the shower-room and bedrooms in the other (the master with a double bed and en suite cloakroom and the other with small twin beds, TV and DVD player).

Out and About

Nobody would blame you if you stayed put at this magical spot for your entire holiday, but if you do feel like venturing out, there is oodles to see and do within easy reach. Close to home, the lovely local village of Constantine has a plethora of offerings - from a convenience store and general store (with an off-licence offering more than 100 different whiskies, a large selection of gins and more!) to a mobile post office (opening hours may vary) and craft gallery with local Information Centre.

Why not don your walking boots and explore the spectacular scenery and estuaries of the gorgeous Helford River (be sure to check out Bosahan Woods and Scott's Quay) or venture a little further afield to the infamous Lizard Peninsula with its rugged coves and breath-taking vistas.

If you don't fancy cooking, a ten-minute trip in the car will take you to the renowned Trengilly Wartha pub or popular café at Potager Garden, and takeaway options can be found in the form of a pizza van in Constantine on a Saturday evening and a fish and chip van in nearby Gweek on a Wednesday evening (there's a good pub and post office at this village too). A little bit of a longer drive will take you to the maritime town of Falmouth (there are some excellent beaches here too) and on to Cornwall's city of Truro, both boasting numerous great eateries.

Lodge: Open plan living-room with kitchen and dining areas. Coal effect electric fire, TV and DVD player. Gas cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle and toaster. Important Information

Please note, children under 2 years of age are not accepted as there is unfortunately no room for a cot at the lodge. The driveway is steep and unmade in places. Please take care around the lake - children must be supervised at all times, life jackets must be worn when using the pedalos and swimming is strictly not permitted. Wood for the BBQ hut is to be supplied by the owner - there are two free nets in the hut to start and thereafter it can be purchased from the owner (there is an honesty-box in the log store).
