Cottage with hot tub in Devon: Truly unique and offering a wonderful sanctuary of calmness - a holiday here will no doubt leave you wanting to return.
This charming bolthole has been skilfully and carefully created by local craftspeople, built using original construction methods from bales of straw, with details throughout that will catch your eye, from the straw mouse hiding in the sitting-room wall to the forged metal work in the garden and hand-crafted shelving in the kitchen, all made by the artist/blacksmith owners. The garden itself offers a real 'WOW' factor and star-gazing up at the dark skies from the hot tub on the patio will be one of the highlights, along with being able to bring your four-legged friends to enjoy this special setting too. Arriving via your own driveway and parking space, you meander through the enclosed garden and patio to the entrance which leads straight into the fabulous bedroom offering the perfect place to lay your head after a long day exploring the wonderful north Devon coast. With sumptuous king-size bed taking in the view of the garden and direct access to the hot tub too! The open plan sitting/dining-room benefits from a welcoming wood-burner, comfortable sofas (and the straw mouse in the wall), but no matter what the season the room floods with light thanks to the many windows. There is a hidden gem in the form of a galleried snug on the mezzanine accessed via a steep flight of stairs - there will be no better place in the cooler months to hide away and read for hours, feeling the warmth from the wood-burner below. The galley kitchen is small but well equipped to cook up a feast or brunch, that can be enjoyed al fresco on the patio and just along the hallway is the shower-room. The creative owners live next door and are on hand to advise on the best places to visit but owing to the well thought out layout of the house and the main access via your own private garden, you are in no way overlooked.
Out and About
This area of north Devon offers an escape offering everything from unspoilt countryside to dramatic coastline and sandy beaches. There are many local restaurants and numerous beach cafes - you really will be spoilt for choice. One of the best is right on your doorstep, just a half-mile stroll - The Farmers Arms in the village of Woolsery. Lundy Island is only a boat trip away and there are beautiful sandy beaches at Instow, Saunton Sands or Braunton Burrows but not forgetting the wonderful galleries and cafes at Instow, which is rich with maritime themes and links to the sea. Once you have discovered this very special place, you will want to return!
