Cabin in Cornwall: As you watch the sun set from the verandah of Gull Rock Cabin you'll be thinking that life can't get much better than this. Drink in the views and get away from it all with a stay in this spectacular coastal hideaway on Cornwall's rugged Lizard peninsula.
General
Tune out, switch off and let your batteries recharge by escaping from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This gorgeous cabin is completely tranquil, the perfect place to completely unwind. Gull Rock Cabin is miles away from the madding crowd - in fact, it's set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on cliffs within a nature reserve and facing west towards the magnificent Mount's Bay, one of the most beautiful bays in the world. Hidden down a secluded track (the owner's home at the end of the drive is the only house within half a mile) the very private cabin overlooks the bird sanctuary of Mullion Island, home to great black-backed gulls, guillemots, shags and cormorants, which you'll see wheeling through the skies above you on their way home to roost, along with buzzards, kestrels and possibly even peregrine falcons. Other wildlife is also in abundance, including seals and even basking sharks in the sea and, on land, foxes, badgers, stoats, rabbit and deer.
The cabin itself, timber clad and slate roofed, was built back in 1928, and has recently been carefully restored, with the renovation including many of the original timbers (believed to have been collected from local shipwrecks of almost 100 years ago). Inside, the open plan living space is light and bright, with a timber floor and floor-to-ceiling glazed doors that lead out onto an al fresco dining area. After dark, you can draw the curtains and snuggle up on the sofa with a good book or watch the latest box set on the smart TV. At one end of the room there's a bespoke galley kitchen, complete with oven, hob, fridge, microwave and even a washing machine (no mod cons spared in this well-equipped getaway), while at the other is a spacious dining table and chairs. The double bedroom is superbly calm and comfortable, and completing the picture is the high quality en suite bathroom, with corner shower, WC, basin and heated towel rail. For peace, quiet and the utmost relaxation, this really is the only place to be - and we reckon you'll never want to leave.
Out and About
From the dramatic South West coast path, a great way to explore the picturesque sites nearby, you can head to Kynance, Mullion or Polurrian for their sandy beaches, or try Poldhu Cove for its Marconi museum, surf school and café offering luxury hot chocolate. In Mullion there are shops, pubs and restaurants, and you can find live music at a number of pubs on the Lizard, or drive a little further to watch a play at the incredible outdoor Minack theatre at Porthcurno. If you're feeling active, try kayaking, paddle-boarding, windsurfing or coasteering locally - you know you'll have a welcoming retreat to come home to for a quiet evening afterwards.
