Unique glamping in Devon: Epic views and a super-cool luxury camping home-from-home - this gorgeous converted shipping container will definitely float your boat.
Industrial chic meets rural idyll at Huxham Hideaway - the perfect place to de-stress, glamping style. By which, read: commune with nature while enjoying video streaming, Bluetooth sound, speedy WiFi and Nespresso coffee. Let's just say that you will sacrifice no mod-cons at this unique retreat.
What you'll find, in a secret woodland setting that looks over a ten-acre private meadow, is a bespoke, customised container that's ruggedly good looking on the outside, and stylishly quirky on the inside. You're spoiled the moment you arrive, with a private drive, ample parking and - bam! - that incredible, panoramic view over rolling, unspoilt countryside to distant hills and the horizon. The spacious wooden deck boasts an outdoor sofa, hand-crafted oak sleeper table with bench seats, a gas BBQ, a hammock and lovely LED mood lighting. A perfect spot for reading, snoozing, enjoying a sundowner or simply breathing in the fresh air and watching the stars come out one by one.
Inside, it's a light, bright, open plan space that's warm and cosy all year round, thanks to both central heating and a toasty wood-burner. To one side of the comfy seating area is the raised, timber-panelled platform with a king-sized bed (and a pocket sprung memory foam mattress, no less) and integrated wardrobe, while at the other side is a well-equipped kitchen, consisting of ample cupboards topped by granite work surfaces, fitted with an oven, fridge, microwave, two-ring hob and a breakfast bar for convivial dining. At the far end is a contemporary, en suite shower-room, literally sparkling from the one-penny pieces that make up the floor, where you'll find a power shower, wash-basin, heated towel rail and, of course, a proper flushing loo.
And there's more. Dogs are welcome here, and if you need a dog-free day out then Fido can be left with the on-site professional, insured doggy day care (you may hear the occasional bark when the dogs go out for their twice-daily walks, but on Mondays to Fridays only, and kept to a minimum). The friendly owners - who are nearby if you need a hand but always respect guests' privacy - will happily pick you up from the local airport, train or bus station during sociable hours, and can hire fold-up bikes for you explore the hundreds of miles of cycle tracks nearby. They will also, if you wish, arrange for a variety of delicious hampers to be delivered to you during your stay. Yum.
Out and About
Peaceful and relaxing it may be, but all around this great location there are just so many things to see and do - provided you can tear yourselves away. You're ten minutes from the Cathedral City of Exeter and half an hour from both the exhilarating trails of Dartmoor or the fascinating Jurassic coastline of east Devon. There are pebbly beaches at Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth, and sand at Exmouth and Lyme Regis. While venturing out you could also visit the National Trust village of Broadclyst, lined with pretty thatched and lime-washed cottages, wander round Killerton House, tour Darts Farm, take a guided walk of the Poltimore Estate, paddle along the Exe Estuary, or simply mingle with the locals in the nearest pub, the Lazy Toad Inn, grade-II listed and featured in Michelin's Eating Out In Pubs 2018.
Converted Shipping Container: Open plan living-room with kitchen, dining and bedroom areas. TV. Electric oven, electric hob, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee machine and fridge. King size double bed (5'). Shower-room with shower, WC and wash-basin
As there is also a small dog day-care on the farm, dogs must be up-to-date with their vaccinations (with proof provided to the owners on arrival).
