Luxury Glamping in Dorset: Comfort and style in a get-away-from-it-all countryside retreat - back to nature with all mod cons. Our tent-tabulous safari tent is the place to stay if you want complete relaxation, loads to explore nearby and, um…even a friendly pig!
Glamp in style while taking in the tranquillity of rural Dorset - tucked into a wildflower meadow beside a little brook, Gascon Safari Tent is the perfect place to escape and unwind. The rolling countryside unfolds in front of you as you and your luggage are transported on the farm's all-terrain vehicle from the car park to your canvas home-from-home, and beyond the raised deck (perfect for a glass of something cold and bubbly while you gaze at the incredible views over the Blackmore Vale) there's plenty of space to have a kickabout or fly kites, exercise the dog and take the kids to explore the surrounding woodlands and trails. Why Gascon? The name comes from a breed of pig in the Midi-Pyrenees region of France. Well, this is Black Pig Retreats, after all. It's all part of Bittles Brook Farm, an equestrian facility and, if you wish, you can meet the Owners' dogs, horses, chickens and sheep, too. Behind it all is Beauty, the Large Black pig who has inspired the friendly, laid-back nature of this delightful place.
Inside your roomy, French-themed tent there's space to sleep six in king-sized and twin beds, plus a cute cabin bed, while in the living area there's a comfy sofa, a dining table and a kitted-out kitchen featuring a two-ring gas hob, fridge/freezer and sink. Cosy toes are guaranteed, thanks to a roasty-toasty wood-burner (your main cooking appliance). Are there en suite facilities? You bet. At the back of the tent you'll find a double shower-room and a cloakroom with wash-basin, heated towel rail and properly flushing loo. In the lower meadow sits Mukota, an African themed safari tent sleeping four along with the Bothy - a delightful straw-built space with seating for up to twenty, allowing groups to dine together if they have booked the whole site. The Bothy is also used to hold Pilates classes on Wednesdays from 10am to 11am - if you would like to join in, just speak with the owner when you arrive (prices are £15 per person per class and this is payable direct to the owner).
As befits this back-to-nature place, just leave the tech behind - you can tread lightly on the land here, minimising your carbon footprint. Electricity is limited to powering the fridge, lights and a mobile phone charger (via USB ports). Switch off and do nothing: it's time to get back to yourself.
Out and About
Can you bear to tear yourself away from this blissful spot? If so, you've picked a great base for exploring. A gentle fifteen and thirty minute stroll will take you along tracks and lanes to the village shop and pub, or you can expend some energy cycling through the woodlands of the nearby New Forest National Park (bring your own bikes or hire them nearby). A five-minute drive gets you to the hilltop town of Shaftesbury, with its great shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, while half an hour or so behind the wheel takes you to mystical Stonehenge, Longleat Safari Park, the Cathedral City of Salisbury or the National Trust's historic Stourhead House. Venture just a little further and you'll reach the lovely Georgian city of Bath (shops, shops and more shops), the sandy beaches of Weymouth and Sandbanks, and the fascinating Jurassic Coast, where you can go all geological at Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Brilliant!
Steps up to open plan living-room with kitchen, dining and bedroom areas with double den bed, wood-fired range, 2 ring hob and fridge/freezer. Bedroom 1 with double bed. Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Shower-room with double shower. Cloakroom with WC and wash-basin.
