Safari tent in Cornwall: Go on safari in unspoilt Cornish countryside: it's our secret glamping hideaway where back to nature meets life's little luxuries. Sounds good, right?

Picture the scene: a starry, starry night in beautiful rural Cornwall. Lying on your back, gazing up at the heavens. Breathing in fresh, pure country air. Listening to the gentle sound of a burbling river - and perhaps the occasional hoot of an owl. Total, complete and utter relaxation. Yup. Getting away from it all really doesn't get any better than this.

This slice of holiday heaven is your very own safari tent called Honeysuckle, one of three very special luxury camping home-from-homes that make up Western Meadows Glamping (Celandine and Campion being the other two). The sturdy tent perches in its own private space at the top of a three-and-a-half acre wildflower meadow, filled with buttercups in the summer, in a tranquil and unspoilt part of north Cornwall. And the views? Well, words almost fail us. Let's just say they're pretty stunning.

Once you're totally de-stressed and set for something to do, you won't run out of fun in this corner of Cornish fabulousness. Just wander along the lane for a great family day out (rain or shine) at New Mills Farm Park, or hop on the cute steam train that shuttles to nearby Launceston during the summer months. Walk, cycle, surf, swim, shop - it's all within easy reach (check out the details below).

But what's it like at Honeysuckle, we hear you cry? Well, on your very own decked veranda you can read, prepare food for the barbecue nearby or simply sit and take in the irresistible views, undisturbed by noisy traffic (good old-fashioned wheelbarrows are provided to roll your luggage from the parking area, keeping the meadow completely car-free). Or you could wander down to the river (taking care with little ones, of course) and watch the wildlife, have a paddle or try your hand at fishing. Picnic benches are dotted along the banks of the river and, for the bounciest among us, there's an outdoor trampoline here, too. In the skies above you may spot buzzards, woodpeckers, finches, wagtails, thrushes and - if you keep very still and quiet - even the odd kingfisher. The owners live close by and keep free-range chickens, and their handy on-site honesty shop has home-made jam, Cornish pasties, fresh eggs and other scrummy delights, as well as all the necessary essentials and bits and pieces you may have forgotten to bring. There's also a shared freezer where you can store all your holiday treats.

If it's possible to be spacious and cosy at the same time, then the Tardis-like Honeysuckle (it's bigger on the inside than it looks) has it sussed. There's room to relax in the living area, a kitchen space that's fully equipped with all the kit you'll ever need, a sociable dining area and two separate bedrooms (a double and a twin), with room for two more to sleep in a den-style bed in the living area. We just know the kids will be fighting over who gets this one. A log-fired range provides both cooking facilities and top-up warmth for chilly evenings (a specially insulated base also helps keep the tent cosy in the cooler months), there is electricity for a small hairdryer and to recharge any gadgets and, to make life as comfortable as possible, there's even a private hot water shower, flushing loo and wash-basin.

Need we say more? This is family fun just as it should be, a happy mix of rugged nature and luxury living. Pack your wellies, your flip flops and some good books; enjoyment guaranteed. The Owners can even organise a dog walking/dog sitting service if required, for a pet free day or evening (this must be booked in advance, as it gets very booked up, and a phone consultation is required).

Out and About

There are walking and cycling routes galore around here and, just a short stroll down the lane, you'll find New Mills Farm Park: a fabulous family day out with indoor and outdoor attractions, including petting animals, a zip wire, play barns, skittles, trampolines, swings, slides, climbing frames, ride-on toys and a super café specialising in great value local food, eat in or takeaway. In the holiday season a steam railway runs from the Farm Park to the town of Launceston, where there are lots of quaint shops for browsing. The north Cornish coast is just a short drive away, where there are great surfing beaches at Bude and Widemouth Bay as well as bracing walks along the coastal path, or you could drive south to the unmissable Eden Project or east to Dartmoor National Park with its incredible landscapes, mystical stones and famous little ponies.

Steps up to decking. Open plan living-room with kitchen and dining areas. Wood-fired range, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and double cabin bed. Bedroom 1 with double bed (5'). Bedroom 2 with twin beds. Shower-room with double shower, WC and wash-basin.
