Seaside Chalet in Dorset: Oh we do like to be beside the seaside - and this charming chalet really is right by the sea. Slap bang in a World Heritage Site with glorious views across the waves, it's boutique luxury on the beach. Just lie back and pass the sun lotion.

General

This one is for all you beach bums, sea lovers, storm watchers, sun worshippers and fossil hunters out there... The Chalet on the Beach is your place. Let's face it, if you were any closer to the sea, the waves would be lapping your ankles. Stretch out in the sun, go for a paddle or spend a happy morning searching for ammonites along the foreshore - your charming holiday home is, quite literally, just a few steps up from the shingle itself, its decked veranda looking across Lyme Bay to spectacular Golden Cap, the highest point along the south coast. The perfect place for a glass of something cold and bubbly.

It all began 199 million years ago... Part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, Monmouth Beach, a mix of sand and rock (and much quieter than the town's main beach), is one of the world's most famous destinations for fossil hunting, and home to the extraordinary ammonite pavement where, at low tide, you can see dozens of large ammonites in the exposed boulders and bedrock.

But you know what? You'll love The Chalet on the Beach whether you're into fossils or not. It's bijou, boutique and completely beautiful - furnished with love and care to ensure you'll have everything you need for an ideal glamping getaway. In the open plan living room is a small sitting and dining-area, with an electric heater and a TV, plus a compact fitted kitchen with a one-ring induction hob, a combination microwave and a fridge with ice-box (we're thinking G&T, naturally). The wet-room, with underfloor heating, features a shower, proper flushing WC and wash-basin with hot and cold running water. And so to bed, tucked up the steep stairs on the 'bed shelf', where there's a comfy double mattress with very limited head room - but a super-duper hatch with glorious views out to sea (the sofa can also be pulled out to become a bed for flexibility, if required). You might even spot a pod of dolphins bobbing about in the bay. All in all, a little slice of seaside heaven.

PS If the local coastguard receives a storm warning during your stay, you'll be advised and informed accordingly. Please be aware that, although this property does not accept pets, the Owner occasionally visits with her dogs.

Out and About

There's heaps to see and do near this fab little place. Stroll just a few steps to the famous Cobb and watch the fishing boats come and go, or else in ten minutes you can be at the famous Hix Oyster & Fish House - offering contemporary seafood with impressive views. It might be uphill all the way, but worth it in the end, and you can roll home afterwards! You might wander up and down Marine Parade, enjoying the range of great places to eat, from ice creams to fine dining, or explore the high street, with dozens of independent shops, as well as the Lyme Regis Museum and the Marine Theatre. Keen walkers might venture all the way to Golden Cap and the Anchor Inn at Seatown, and if you wanted to see the dramatic coastline from the water you can hop on a boat and look out for dolphins or try to hook some mackerel. As for fossil hunting, well - where do we start? With patience and a keen eye you're bound to come across something to take home, but do follow the Fossil Code (there's a copy in the Chalet), steering clear of cliffs and watching out for the incoming tide. Alternatively, book yourself onto a fascinating guided fossil walk led by a local expert. All this and more on foot, but if you fancy getting behind the wheel you can be at River Cottage HQ in five minutes and the interesting towns of Axminster, Bridport or Budleigh Salterton in just a little longer.
