Shepherd's Hut in Devon: Relax and unwind in a luxurious bolthole for two. While away the hours in your romantic shepherd's hut under a shady tree, gazing at panoramic country views. Aaaaah, this is the life . . .
Oh we do love a shepherd's hut! Comfy and cosy, with everything you need in just the right place, this is luxury camping with knobs on. Shepherd's Oak sits lightly on the landscape, nestled under an ancient oak tree at the top of a gently sloping meadow, from which you'll want to spend hours gazing at the glorious views over green, rolling countryside to the East Devon coast. With no one nearby (just Shepherd's Delight tucked away in the woodland and out of sight) you can leave your doors wide open and breathe deep in the country air with nothing but the sound of birdsong to disturb you. Well, maybe the occasional moo, baa, neigh or cluck drifting over from a nearby farm. Private access leads you to your handsome hut, where there's both a south-facing deck (complete with your very own wood-fired hot tub!) to catch some rays and a west-facing one where you can linger with a glass of wine and watch the setting sun (red sky at night…). Cook up some treats on the barbecue and, if it starts to get nippy, you can warm up by the chiminea. In front of you is an enclosed area for pooches to play, and to one side is a further field where you can wander to your heart's content and meet the resident family of - wait for it - alpacas. Watch out for their babies in the summer: they're cute as can be! Active types who bring their bikes can store them in a field shelter next to the hut or, if you wish to borrow some, just ask the friendly Owners. There's also a shared games-room in one of the barns on the farm, just in case you need some rainy-day distraction. Inside, Shepherd's Oak has all the glamping luxuries you could wish for, including a wood-burning stove for evenings in by the fire and a flat-screen TV for lazy morning lie-ins. The double bed is comfy and there's a sweet kitchen-area with an electric hob, a fridge and toaster. With proper mains electricity you can have a hot shower whenever you like, in the surprisingly spacious shower-room where there's (of course) also a wash-basin and flushing loo.
Out and About
Despite its secret and secluded feeling, Shepherd's Oak is just a couple of miles from the Cathedral City of Exeter, where you can explore the Roman walls, historic quayside, boutique shops, excellent cafés and restaurants and intriguing art galleries. You can even hire a canoe and paddle to a canal-side pub for a jug of Pimms. Or hop in the car for a quick drive to the amazing Jurassic cliffs of the East Devon coast, where you'll also find some lovely, traditional seaside towns such as Budleigh Salterton and Beer.
Steps up to Shepherd's Hut with open plan living-room with kitchen, dining and bedroom area with TV, wood-burner, 2 ring electric hob, fridge, toaster and double bed. Shower-room with shower, WC and wash-basin.
