Cabin in Devon: Tardis-like, our superstar shack not only has all the mod cons you'll ever need for a rurally restorative glamping getaway but is also a whole heap bigger inside than you'd ever imagine. Breathe in, breathe out; unwind.
So cute you want to pinch its cheeks, this gorgeous cabin is a cosy retreat with lovely views over a lake that's covered in water lilies during the summer. It's all about the great outdoors at Ashley's Shack - a sheltered patio means you can relax in the fresh air, busy doing nothing but drinking in the natural scenery, listening to the dawn chorus or the owls hooting in the woods of an evening. Watch the sun set and the stars start to twinkle - there's no light pollution here. Read a book, take a nap, or open a bottle and cook up something delicious on the barbie; isn't this what life's all about? From the moment you pull off the Totnes to Dartmouth Road (which can be busy during the day and there is some road noise) you'll start to switch off and slow down. Your blue-painted woodland hideaway is reached by a lovely little path through a wildflower meadow (pack a torch for those darker nights) and, when you arrive, your luggage will be effortlessly transferred by tractor. Ashley's shares its idyllic surroundings of acres of wildflower meadows, woodlands, a stream and, of course, the lake, with Poppy Yurt - but never fear, you'll be perfectly private to do your own thing. Inside the charming cabin with its wood-panelled walls you'll find a large, comfy bed covered with gorgeous linens and throws. There's a sofa for snuggling up next to a roaring fire in the wood-burner, a proper dining table, and a sweet little kitchen with a Belfast sink - not to mention a dresser (in a shack? Yes, really!). And, of course, in the en suite you'll find your very own flushing loo, basin and shower, with hot and cold running water. A roomy home from home? You bet.
Out and About
If you can tear yourself away from this fantastic place, there's heaps to do nearby, whether you want bucket-and-spade fun, a spot of shopping or something cultural. You're slap bang in between Totnes, with its fab Friday morning market and eco-friendly shops, and Dartmouth, which boasts yet more great shopping and a proud naval tradition. Blackpool Sands, one of the South Hams' most gloriously beautiful beaches, is just a short drive away, as is Greenway, once the holiday home of Agatha Christie and now a National Trust treasure.
Steps up to open plan living-room with kitchen, dining and bedroom areas. King-size double bed (5'), wood-burner, 2 ring electric hob, combination microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. Shower-room with shower, WC and wash-basin.
