Shepherd's hut with sea views in Cornwall: Who could resist a getaway in a traditional shepherd's hut by the sea? It's simple arithmetic: delightful charm plus up-to-date comfort equals one absolutely unforgettable holiday.
A king-size bed with super-deep and comfy mattress, well-equipped mini-kitchen, walk-in wet room - are you in a luxury hotel, by any chance? Actually, no. You're in a cosy shepherd's hut for two from which you can see straight out to sea - what's more, if you step out of your front door you'll be on the beach within fifteen minutes.
These huts were once an all-in-one shelter, bedroom, kitchen, living-room and dining-room for shepherds watching their flocks (and washing their socks?). And very handy they were, too, with a stove in one corner, a window from which to watch the fluffy baa lambs and a hinged stable door. Our gorgeous Mr Blue Sky was hand-built in the Cotswolds in traditional style, but also made extra-wide for a little more space and equipped with all mod-cons, such as a TV with DVD player, two-ring hob, a full-size fridge, a combination microwave, toaster, a panel heater for warmth and a foldaway dining table. Everything, in fact, that you could possibly want for a glamping getaway. You'll even get a 'Cornish' welcome basket of breakfast goodies to get you started. The décor, meanwhile, is sassy seaside-chic, right down to the bunting above the door.
When it comes to washing the sand out from between your toes, this place has it covered. Just behind the hut is Mr Blue Sky's very own 'beach hut', nine feet square, which has steps up to a huge walk-in wet-room with hot shower, flushing toilet, wash-basin, heated towel rail, hairdryer and plenty of space to hang up your beach towels or put down your walking boots. Talk about luxury camping.
Mr Blue Sky is in the bijou Bos Verbas camping and caravanning site, set in two-and-a-half acres of flat grassland that's sheltered by trees and coastal hedging (plenty of birdsong!) and with awesome, panoramic sea views over Praa Sands village and out to the Atlantic beyond. Set back from the main road, the site is 200 yards up a private lane, and has just five touring pitches and one other shepherd's hut. Mr Blue Sky is the first hut you come to, just past the owner's lovely summer-house office, and has its own private, grassed area, with a parking space, garden furniture, barbecue and even a chimenea, should you come over with that camp-fire feeling. There's even space beside the hut for you to pop up a small tent (having checked with the owner first, of course) for an extra guest. Now, toasted marshmallow, anyone?
Out and About
We've already mentioned nearby Praa Sands beach, a gentle stroll down the hill, where you'll find a mile of golden sands, a pub, a restaurant and a couple of seasonal cafés. Walkers - alert! You can also join the South West Coast Path here. Or jump in the car for a ten-minute drive to the unmissable St Michael's Mount at Marazion or the pretty fishing village of Porthleven. Twenty minutes gets you to the famous artists' town of St Ives, and in between there are stunning beaches dotted all along this coast, from Perranuthnoe, five minutes in one direction to Rinsey, five minutes in the other.
Steps up to Mr Blue Sky. Open plan living-room with kitchen, dining and bedroom areas. 2 ring hob, combination microwave and fridge. Double bed (5') and TV/DVD player. Outside access with steps up to 'Beach Hut' with Wet-room, WC and wash-basin.

St Michael's Mount
This local landmark looks like something straight out of a fairytale; a medieval castle perched on top of a little tidal island, complete with cobbled streets and even its own harbour and gardens. ...
The Cornish theatre with real ‘wow’ factor is the Minack. Perched on the cliffs at Porthcurno, the Minack is an open-air theatre-in-the-round – and a triumph of vision over reality.

The train journey to St Ives from Lelant Saltings is lovely. The track runs along stunning coastline to St Ives. Get a window seat on the right for the best views.

One restaurant, one beach, one menu, one excellent approach to food. Recommended in the Times (2012) as one of the top five places to eat fish!
Beachside bar and restaurant. Great views of the beach. Occasionally has live music on Sunday afternoons or DJs on weekend nights. Good for Sunday roasts.
